Regia Montreal Socks

Another FO!! Well, I’ve been working on these for the last two weeks so it’s not as if I turned these babies out in the last day or two.

I love the feet but I really hate the ribbing. Ugh. It’s a good thing my pant legs will cover that up! Stacey noted that the reason the Jaywalker pattern took off was because good patterns for self-striping yarn are so hard to find. I totally agree. Ribbing and self-striping do not work well together, as you can see below.
This brings me to another issue. For those of you that knit socks without a ribbed leg, how do your socks stay up??? I have to have a ribbed leg or a pattern that functions the way ribbing does in order to keep my socks up. ESPECIALLY with sock yarn. Heavier yarn helps stand the sock up. What do you sock experts say? Is there a secret? I see knitters knitting stockinette socks with a few inches of ribbing and I just wonder if those socks are worn bunched around the ankles.

Speaking of socks, there is a new pair on my needles. Another pair of Cable Twist Socks because I liked knitting the first pair so much! I think I’ll send these to my aunt. The yarn is Knit Picks Swish Superwash in Baby Blue from my latest stash expansion. I’ve been wearing the white pair a lot these days because of the extremely cold days we’ve had and I *love* them. I need pairs in all colors!!

My socks have about an inch of ribbing on the leg and the rest is stocking st. They stay up ok.
I love the yarn color! My mom made socks for my daughter for xmas with the same yarn. I am considering matching ones for me.

I like the ribbing! I have a pair that’s plain stockinette, and it stays up okay, but I like the snug feel of ribbing better. The cable twist pattern looks beautiful. I think I’m going to have to make a pair of those too!

now that is some good looking stripage! Love the colors.
I’ve done a few pairs of straight stockinette, the socks are snug maybe thats why they stay up?

I think the stripes still look good with the ribbing. And the colors are great. So far, my mum’s made me a few pairs of socks, 3 had the inch of ribbing at the top and then st st, and they’ve stayed up fine. (Right now I’m working my way down to the toe on my first ever sock – with ribbing all the way to the heel.)

I actually kind of like the ribbing and stripes – not too disruptive….I make sure I do at least 2″ of cuff to make sure mine stay up – I’ve had no problems so far!

Wow! You are a knitting pattern machine! I love the hat, but I’m never sure about hats (will I really wear one?). This one’s very cool though and I will keep it in mind if I decide to make one. I love the yarn you used for the ribbed socks by the way.

I like the ribbing & the stripes. & well, the whole darn sock! To me ribbing adds texture to the striping. I usually do a full leg rib & onto the foot rib because straight knitting of the whole rest of the sock would be very boring for me. Cables would also hold a sock leg up but wouldn’t be so good for self striping yarn.

Maybe you could try something with more knits & less purls so it would look less ribby ~ like a k4, p2 or p1 or maybe a k5, p2 or p1.
